Dr. Curt Kommer received his M.D. from the University of California at Davis and has since been a physician in Milwaukee.  Although Kommer was not formally trained in art, he had a secret desire and passion for painting.  His motivation to reveal his ability as an artist came from a former patient named Joseph Friebert.  Friebert was a gifted artist, internationally known and a Professor of Art at UWM.  In between medical issues he encouraged Kommer to talk about his admiration for artists like Bellows, de Stael, and Cezanne; artists bold in their use of textures, shapes, and colors.  Friebert challenged Kommer to love his art, to find an audience, and to appreciate the power of beauty reflected in a good painting.

A world traveler, Kommer depicts new landscapes in unfamiliar places, or fresh looks at familiar faces.  Travelogues reflects his own evolution and personal growth in the varied world-wide landscapes he has been privileged to explore.  Kommer states, “in essence, the beauty of our natural world cannot be improved on, so I use it as my inspiration; each painting, like each trip I take, helps me grow as a person.”

Kommer says of his show at Lakeshore Gallery, “I deeply appreciate Lakeshore Gallery’s commitment to art and artists, and I am proud that they are part of our community.”
